Slight Name Change???

Consider this official notification that we are pissed off that some little kid punk rock wannabe band from DC stole our band name and trademarked it. Since they have previously been threatening about the name, we have tentatively agreed to bill our band as Cab Ass'n when we play shows in the DC/Baltimore area. For all further band news and information, please go to www.cabassn.blogspot.com. The effort comes as an effort to reach a mutually amicable solution, avoid litigation, and reduce confusion, we have decided to follow through with this slight name change. Feel free to call us Cab Assassin, Cab Assassins of Delaware, Cab Assassin Jr., the artist(s) formerly known as Lou Albino or whatever the hell you want to call us. All we ask is that if you are going to scribble our name/logo on your trapper keeper, you spell it CABASS'N or Cab Assassin (Ass'n).

Peace and CABASS'N Grease...

Support the Real Cab Assassin

To all fans of the Real Cab Assassin (DelMarVa based)...

Earlier tonight I received word that there is another band, from DC (ironically), playing and recording under the name Cab Assassin. They probably saw one of Steve's homemade Cab Ass'n T-shirts back in 2002 and it stuck in their head subconsciously (they have only been using the name since late 2003). They have asked us, amongst other things, to not release anything (music or merchandise) under our band's rightful name...

They immediately advised me that we need to change the name of our band because they have trademarked the name. We cannot help but feel these guys are being hostile towards us. If we had discovered them first, we would have said, "Cool name, lets play a show together some time" or "let's find a way to co-exist since we obviously cater to different crowds" etc. They claim to be punk rock, but are obviously acting like a bunch of spoiled rich kids that want to get rich by being in a band. Maybe you'll see these ass-clowns on MTV some day.

Due to the apparent hostility, I sent an e-mail telling them to get over themselves. They are not the only ones with personal reasons to keep the band name. The fact is, We were Cab Assassin first, no matter what they say or trademark, our band existed before them. I personally promoted our music at grit scrimmage and architect of the capital shows at the grog and tankard, galaxy hut, the laughing lizard lounge and numerous other shows, parties and biker bashes.

The message I received said that we should "clear up the matter before we release our album or spend any more capital." We have already released albums on the ChiefBaby label since 2002. I think everyone knows that the only "capital" we spend is from our own pockets...this band is a labor of love not a quick dollar.

I hope these guys realize that we will rarely, if ever, play a show in DC, and rarely west of the Chesapeake Bay. We are in this purely for the music. Namewise, they should take note from the band(s) named Junkyard - one band was a badass go-go ensemble while the other was a kind of lame glam band (featuring one badass guitar player named Brian Baker ex-Dag Nasty/Minor Threat/Doggystyle).

The other bands website is www.cabassassin.com go to their site and tell 'em what you think about these unfortunate circumstances.

We will keep you posted...at least they can't get the blogspot!

Cab Assassin at Bethany Surf Shop Anniversary

You heard it here first...

Cab Assassin will be performing at the Bethany Surf Shop's 25th Anniversary Blow-Out in late June with some very special guests. The band feels priveleged to take part in such a monumental event, and has a planned a very ecclectic performance which will cover most of the Cab Assassin catalogue and maybe dip into some LouAlbino classics. There will be a mix of acoustic and electric renditions of some of your favorite songs. Let us know if there are any Albino classics you are jonesing to hear. More details to come.
